To inspire meaningful community engagement and cultivate effective leadership to create a stronger future for the Middle Border Region.
Middle Border Forward envisions a region in which the citizens are not merely stakeholders impacted by decisions made, but shareholders invested in the decision-making process. Barriers to access and participation (physical, systemic & cultural) have been removed. Each person contributes according to their talents and passions; thereby, developing a sense of shared ownership and responsibility for the community and its future.
Systems work together in a coordinated effort toward common goals, maximizing the likelihood of success by capitalizing on all assets and eliminating waste & redundancy. Resources preserved by these efficiencies are redirected to other areas of need, allowing for exponential growth & redevelopment.
Within this vision, MBF operates as a community development hub - building collective networks by bridging people and organizations to co-create innovative change, providing space (both physical & psychological) for critical discussions and catalyzing ideas into action, while equipping grassroots leaders to be the change they want to see in the world.

Middle Border Forward (MBF) was established in December 2015 as the capstone project of an 18-month fellowship of emerging grassroots leaders in the region sponsored by Danville Regional Foundation. Today, as an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, MBF is on a mission to build social capital in the City of Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Caswell County by providing innovative opportunities for people to #BeTheChange they want to see where they live, work & play.
MBF’s work focuses on grassroots leadership development and community engagement. Chief among our values are a commitment to inclusivity and the belief that every person has the potential to make a positive impact in their community.
